You don't need any special ingredients to prepare this recipe, just common kitchen cupboard ingredients will be all you need.
It amazes me how everyday simple ingredients come into play to transform the boring and dry chicken breast meat into an exciting and delicious Sheesh Taouk.
The secret lies in the marinade, the main component of which being yogurt and lemon juice. The longer the marination time the greater will be the taste of the chicken pieces. This recipe is a cinch to whip up just mix up all the ingredients of the marinate apply on chicken pieces and thread into screwers.
Cooking Time: 40 mins ☻ Serves 8 ☻ Skill : Easy ☻ Category: Meat, Main Course
Ingredients | Quantiy |
chicken breasts cut into cubes | 5 |
garlic minced | 2 tsp |
tomato paste | 1/2 cup |
greek yogurt | 1/2 cup |
paprika | 2 tbsp |
lemon juice | 1/4 cup |
oil | 1/4 cup |
salt | to taste |
Method:
Wash the chicken breasts, pat dry and cut into medium sized cubes.
Combine all the ingredients for the marinate into one big bowl. Set aside.
Place the chicken cubes into the marinate and mix properly so that each and every piece is fully coated.
Let the chicken pieces marinate perferably overnight or for at least 4-5 hours. After this you are supposed to thread it into screwers but... guess what? I forgot to take a picture of this step. But I know it is very easy to use a screwer for this purpose and you will do it without any problem.
Tip: Soak the wooden screwers for a few hours in water before using.
Place in a shallow baking dish and bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees C. Bake until the chicken is tender and has a light golden colour or grill untill brown marks are formed.
I like to eat this dish with some salad but you can serve it over a bed of rice or as a sandwich in a pitta bread. Garlic mayo, ketchup, toum (garlic paste) or even my recipe for Dried Plum Chutney are all good condiments to serve with it.
